Clothing Alteration Frequently Asked Questions


  • How long does wedding gown fitting generally take?

    The wedding dress fabric and the number of areas that must be altered will primarily determine the time it takes for a fitting. In general, the first fitting will take 30 to 45 minutes.

  • How many fittings will I need for a wedding dress?

    Generally 4 to 6 fittings.

  • How long do alterations normally take?

    Standard alterations on ready – to wear are generally done within 7–14 days. Wedding gown, special occasion and custom work normally take longer, depending on the garment and the amount of work needed. The turn–around time and pricing for this type of work will be accessed at your first fitting.

  • What is the earliest time I should come in for a fitting for a wedding dress or tuxedo?

    We recommend 4 to 6 weeks prior to the wedding date.

  • Do I need an appointment?

    We highly recommend an appointment. We will welcome walk-ins; however most clients schedule an appointment and you could have to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to be worked between appointments.

  • Do you alter mens wear?

    YES, Sandra G’s does custom alterations and tailoring for all your garment needs.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

    We accept, checks (with two major forms of id), debit cards and major credit cards; such as VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.

  • How should I prepare for a wedding gown fitting?

    Plan your first fitting – AT LEAST – 6–8 weeks prior to your wedding date. Have your shoes and undergarments to ensure proper pinning and adjustments for your fittings.


    First fitting for bridal gowns are normally 1 hour. If you are bringing other members of your wedding party to be fitted, please schedule additional appointment time.


    Be PROMPT. We work on an appointment basis therefore timeliness is important to respect our scheduled clients.


    If you are running late or cannot make your appointment, please call – we will happily reschedule you.


    Most brides have 3–6 appointments before their dress is transformed for their special day. We take pride in our work and want to make sure that your gown fits you and your dreams perfectly.
